Today we commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose good and righteous dream shaped our nation’s history in so many ways.
Dr. King said it best: the time is always right to do what is right. Today and every day, we must fight to keep Dr. King’s dream alive across the country. I pledge to continue my work promoting his vision in Congress on everything from securing equal economic opportunities to building a brighter future for our children. At the end of last year, I got the chance to meet Martin Luther King III who—not unlike his father—is a tireless advocate for the American people. We shared a passion for the passage of my bill, the Weekend Voting Act, which would expand on one of Dr. King’s greatest visions: ensuring the path to the ballot box is clear for everyone.
Today let’s remember Dr. King’s important work and recommit ourselves to leading and living with his teachings in mind.
