Louise Line: All Aboard!
As a part of my larger infrastructure agenda, I worked for years to make this new station a reality. Seven years ago this month, I secured the first batch of funding necessary for the preliminary engineering work and in 2012 I secured a competitive, $15 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant needed for a completely new station. In a grand design that echoes the original Claude Bragdon Station that was sadly torn down, our new station is READY for action and will be a gateway for more than 130,000 annual travelers for decades to come.
I’ve already toured the station with industry and community leaders from AIM Photonics, Eastman Business Park, Rochester Red Wings, and more to strategize about ways to attract new companies to our city, since we all know that with infrastructure investment comes economic growth and good-paying jobs. Rebuilding and expanding our train station to make transportation more reliable will have a ripple effect across our regional economy, strengthening existing businesses and helping recruit new ones.
Starting this week, every single person who walks off a train in Rochester will receive a grand welcome to our great city.
I can’t wait to cut the ribbon on Friday!
