Louise Line: Thinking of all those wounded this week
This has been a difficult week.
I’ve been thinking constantly about my colleague, Representative Steve Scalise, his family, the Capitol Police officers, and others injured while practicing for the annual bipartisan baseball game on Wednesday morning.
I am profoundly grateful for the heroism of the first responders led by the Capitol Police, especially officers Crystal Griner and David Bailey, whose bravery under fire saved many lives that morning.
The annual Congressional baseball game last night, and especially the bipartisan opening prayer on second base, are a testament to the idea that no matter our political affiliation—Democrat or Republican—my colleagues and I are all Americans united in our commitment to serve this country. Despite our sometimes-contentious debates, I have great respect for all my colleagues and am proud of our efforts last night to push on and play ball.
Sadly, this was not the first act of violence against a member of Congress, but we cannot be deterred.
I want to be clear: nothing will get between me and my job representing you and our community. I’m proud to serve Rochester and will continue to work every day on your behalf.
