Last week, I joined constituents, including small business owners and members of the labor community, at the grand opening of the Inner Loop East! This project has helped create hundreds of new construction jobs and reconnected neighborhoods and businesses that have been severed by the highway for more than 50 years.
This transformative project would have not been possible without a $17 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant, federal funding I am proud to have secured. Right now, the president and congressional Majority are pushing ahead with a 2018 budget that cuts transportation funding by $2.4 billion, including the full elimination of the TIGER grant program. Eliminating critical infrastructure investments like this one is a misguided move and would only set our region back in this competitive 21st century economy.
Rochester’s best days are still ahead, but we can’t get there by neglecting our infrastructure needs. I will continue fighting to ensure our region has the resources necessary to bring in new businesses, boost our economy, and create more good-paying jobs.
