Unfinished Business

This week, members of Congress head back to our nation’s capital to address looming deadlines and tackle the litany of legislative priorities I believe the congressional Republican leadership left unfinished at the end of last year.

Everything from reauthorizing the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and funding community health centers to saving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program remains in the balance. More than 18 million people count on CHIP and community health centers to get the health care they need. Hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients – children brought here through no fault of their own – remain vulnerable as this critical program approaches the end date imposed by the president. These important initiatives required action months ago under the Majority’s leadership. Let me say that again: it has been months of inaction.

These are real lives and real people the Majority cast aside while prioritizing a tax plan for millionaires and billionaires. This is a shameful. I will continue to govern responsibly and fight for what is right as we work together to address national priorities in the New Year. You can count on it.
