Slaughter’s Statement on Eastman Business Park and Oak Ridge National Laboratory Collaboration
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Congresswoman Louise Slaughter released the following statement in response to the announcement of a job-creating collaboration between Eastman Business Park (EBP) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a lab run by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). EBP and DOE officials will sign a memorandum of understanding today at 2:00 p.m. at a ceremony in Rochester.
“This partnership is a big step forward in our efforts to create jobs in Rochester and Monroe County and is critically important to the future of our national competitiveness in roll-to-roll manufacturing. Combining Eastman Business Park’s testing and manufacturing strength with the world-renowned research capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory will bring more high-tech companies and new, high-skilled jobs to Rochester as we develop and commercialize clean energy technologies,” said Rep. Slaughter. “For years, I have been bringing top officials from the Departments of Energy and Defense to Rochester to see first-hand the brainpower and infrastructure that we have. Agency leaders are impressed with Rochester and today’s announcement is one of the payoffs from those visits.”
The collaboration will focus on accelerating commercialization and manufacturing of next-generation battery and energy storage devices and materials. Over the last year, Slaughter has played a key role in moving the partnership forward by arranging meetings for EBP and bringing top agency leaders from the U.S. Department of Energy and Defense to visit and tour EBP facilities.
